Of all of the sad news in recent days--Sheckley, Williamson, etc.--I think this one is the toughest to take. I always thought his stand-up was genius and his rather brutal sense of humor always inspired me.

I write fiction. My latest novel, Shriek: An Afterword, is now out in the US, published by Tor. I'm currently co-editing a series of anthologies with my wife, Ann, who is also the fiction editor of Weird Tales. We have three cats, all of whom have eccentric personalities. Soon, I will be moving to WordPress and my happiness will be complete.

From what I understand his life was pretty brutal too, but the flame that burns brightest...
Pryor is like a semi-deity figure in my youth (and still is, as I own literally every stand-up video). I think everybody I know (that I grew up with) can watch his stand-ups with the volume off and fully reenact the entire show.
He was cutting edge, yet classic the moment he stepped off stage on every performance.
